Christmas Cards 2025

Last year’s Christmas cards were pen-plotted. This year, they’re plotted with paint and brushes. A reflecting-line algorithm, constrained to a Christmas tree. First plotted in pencil as a guide. Then I add drops of paint; the machine moves the brush.

ITR.01 / Skeleton

Starting off with creating a skeleton: a guiding path in the shape of a Christmas tree, laying the groundwork for paint drops and the brushwork. To generate this structure, I re-used my Reflecties algorithm, altered its reflective boundary into a triangular shape so it would resemble a christmas tree-like form.

ITR.02 / Plotting with paint and brushes

Next I began by plotting the guidelines in pencil. Then I applied drops of paint and followed the paths with a brush, letting the paint interact with the structure. I created a video that shows the full process from start to finish which you can see here below.

ITR.03 / Results

In the end, I plotted around 40 painted Christmas trees, though not all of them made the final cut to be sent to friends and family. For my personal archive, I scanned the entire series. Below are some of the scans.

ITR.04 / Textures

I really liked the texture that the brushes and paint made on paper.

ITR.05 / Sent them off

In the end I also created a nice little setup to sign the envelopes and sent about 30 cards to friends & family.
